Synopsis

The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.
But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway—a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them, this is a game in which only one can be left standing, and the circus is but the stage for a remarkable battle of imagination and will. Despite themselves, however, Celia and Marco tumble headfirst into love—a deep, magical love that makes the lights flicker and the room grow warm whenever they so much as brush hands.
True love or not, the game must play out, and the fates of everyone involved, from the cast of extraordinary circus performers to the patrons, hang in the balance, suspended as precariously as the daring acrobats overhead.
Written in rich, seductive prose, this spell-casting novel is a feast for the senses and the heart.

Review
Writing:The writing style of this book is quite different from what I normally read.It gives the vibe of a classic and not a fantasy book.I thought it would be similar to The Caraval Trilogy , but it’s so far from it.They do share the element of magic and games but they’re nothing alike. The world building is done very well,I wanted to visit Le Cirque des Rêves from how mesmerizing it seemed due to the way it was described.Even though I am not the biggest fan of the circus in real life,I definitely would visit this one.The writing of this book is super slow paced,I was getting in a slump. Some things were not organized or made sense to me.Like one moment she’s six years old and the next she’s 16.It’s confusing. It’s repeated throughout the whole book. There’s also the part were we don’t actually understand the rules of the game until you’re more than half way through the book.It was kinda annoying to be honest.
Plot:The story itself is nice.I loved the magic system. At the beginning of the book I sympathized with Celia as her father wasn’t exactly the warmest.I was annoyed at him for using his daughter for a fruitless, stupid game(in my opinion). The story moved very slowly,I was getting kinda bored at times. But since the moment of opening the circus,it moved a bit faster and I enjoyed it a lot more cause things were getting exciting, but still considered slow paced compared to other books.
Characters:for me,Celia and Marco weren’t really my favorite. The romance is so sudden, there was no taking their time.I felt like Marco suddenly realized that he loved Celia. My fav characters in the book would be the twins.
The ending of the book was fine, not exactly what I’d hoped for,but acceptable.I am honestly disappointed in that book since I had very high expectation for it,but it’s okay.

Anyway, you should read the book if you have it in your TBR since this is just my POV.Maybe you’ll like it more than I did,who knows?
