1.These violent delights

I am going to start with the series that got me into historical fiction.I love reading books about gangs and mafia because I think they’re cool. Also I cannot be a gang or mafia member in real life so why not be one in books? And this book was just written perfectly from all aspects. The writing style of Chloe Gong is really amazing, the story and characters are wonderful.Even though the end of the second book broke my heart and made me cry.My heart was mended in The last violent call novella. If you are looking for an Asian inspired historical fiction that includes slow burn rivals to lovers , gangs , secrets and deadly diseases kinda book, then this one is for you!

2.As long as the lemon trees grow by Zoulfa Katouh

This book is one of my all time favs. Not only because of how well the story and characters are written, but also because it’s the first book I read by a muslim author, so it was extra special for me.The story of this book takes place in Syria amidst the revolution. It follows Salama the main character as she navigates her life as a university student forced to be doctor by the circumstances .She meets Keenan, a boy who loves documenting the horror of their lives for the world to see.Their lives entwine in the most terrible and perfect ways ever. This novel makes you understand the revolution that was happening in Syria through the heroin’s perspective Salama and how it affects their lives. Some parts are taken from real stories that happened and it will make your heart crack. I discovered that while I’m almost done with the book and it made my heart break.I cried a lot in this book but I also smiled,It will always be one of my favs 💗. It feels so incredibly real after you see what’s happening now in G@z@.

3.SJTR by Kerri Maniscalco

Moving on to the SJTR series. It is seriously AMAZING!! I wish I could forget it just so I could reread it all over again. These Violent Delights might be the series that started my love for historical fiction, but the SJTR is the series that ignited my love for it. The plot is uniquely different and absolutely perfectly written. It is set in set in the late 1880s in London. The story follows two academic rivals , Audrey Rose and Thomas Cresswell. They are both forensic students who also help in solving crimes in London and other countries as well. When I tell you that I devoured this series in no time, I am not kidding. It will keep you on the edge of your seat with every crime that happens, and the romance was perfect as well.If you have to choose one out of all the recs from this post , let it be this one.I promise you’ll love it!

4.Babel by R.F Kuang

Babel is one of those books that I know will turn into classics in the future. It tells the story of problems that are going on around us like (Racism , colonialism ,role of resistance and more) through four Oxford students each from different part of the world to represent different cultures. It follows the main character Robin as he tries to navigate his life and learn more about the world , himself and his friends. It is a story of friendship, rebellion , standing with the truth and a heap lot of pain. If you’re into dense writing , complex characters and rich plot and world building, then you must read this book.

5.Us in Ruins

Us in Ruins is the opposite of Babel , It could be considered the rom-com of historical fiction. It is light , funny with cute romance all at once. The story talks about Margot a student on a trip to Pompeii , Italy. She is on a mission to uncover the rest of the missing pieces of the vase of Venus Auriela through a dead boy’s journal. This book is super fun to read, I finished it in one sitting!

6.To gaze upon wicked gods

This is a other Asian historical fiction. Ruying lives in her Roman colonized country. The Romans has destroyed her people , country and their future. Her only goal is to keep her grandma and sister safe from the claws of the Romans, it is hard since the Romans brutalize everyone without warning , she wants to us her power , but she has to keep it a secret for now. Though when she gets captured by the roman prince she is forced to either use her power for his benefit and her family’s safety or be killed. This book was fun more than I thought it would be , it was an enjoyable read. I’m still waiting for the next book in this series.
